SPEECH NOTES
All my notes in this section are based off the drama CDs, anime, and the Japanese dub for the game.
-guy uses "ore" for his personal pronoun (informal masucline)
-his speech slows a bit when he's confused/puzzled
-his manner of speaking is confident. he doesn't stammer or pause between what he says, and what he says usually comes out at an even/measured pace.
-when he's considering something it sounds like he's thinking aloud to himself.
-when he's serious his voice becomes more subdued and less "bright" in tone--if he gets really angry it easily slips into a growl.
-he stammers a little when surprised, but not much outside of that.
-he's very informal with luke and the party! his speech matches the cadences of long-haired luke most closely--no surprise since he raised the kid.
-i'm pretty sure he's the second in swearing most out of the entire party. he's not all over the place, but it's easy to get him swearing when the situation's tense.
-does this boy have any shame. the answer is no. "enter the amazing guy!" jesus kid.
-related to the above point. he's very smooth with women but not in a playboy way. rather, in a sincere, "i get what you're going through" way. according to him he just says whatever comes to mind.
-when he's irritated or defensive his tone becomes sharper and closer to a growl, but he typically tries to "smooth" it out after that moment by speaking quieter.
BODY LANGUAGE NOTES
-very casual!
-puts his hands on his hips a lot
-when he's leaning on something he folds his arms like he's some coolkid
-he straightens up in presence of someone important (like royalty) but he's otherwise very lax. he probably does this too when around ppl he's uncomfortable with/unsure of but that's headcanon.
-kind of weird to note, but guy doesn't seem to sit down that much in chairs. he's usually standing/leaning around. when he does sit down, it's usually on the ground, criss-cross applesauce kinda thing.
-when he's very relaxed he sits in chairs backwards.
-he takes up a lot of space. when he sits on benches he just throws his arms out and crosses his legs. and he's shit as a sleeper. he's the sort to sleep on his stomach eagle-spread and roll around. horrible.
-points at himself w/ his thumb when referencing/introducing himself
-also interesting to note is that he frequently has his hand resting on his sword
-he likes to wink when he's teasing someone
-his phobia is really bad. to the point that if any women is approaching his vicinity he'll take a couple of steps back on instinct. if they break a certain distance he'll yelp/scream/freak out and back away. he cowers + trembles as well.
-by the end of the game this seems to have lessened. while he'll still shrink back from contact, he's able to overcome his fear in situations that require him to. he was even able to carry an injured girl on his back in one sidequest!
-he's very physically affectionate with people he's super close to! this falls primarily under the "luke" category. he does things like slap a hand over their shoulder, lean into them, etc.
-whenever he's troubled about something he looks downwards, but when he's thinking he tilts his head up, with his hand on his chin.
-he does do hand gestures idk how to explain it but it's more of a matter of emphasis vs dramatics. casual, not sweeping.
-rubs the back of his neck when embarrassed
MISC. NOTES
-in an official anthology it's mentioned that luke gave guy a music box. in pere and guy's room, that same music box is sitting by guy's bed.
-also to note: in pere and guy's room, there are two banners hanging over their beds with kimlasca-lanvaldear's symbol. pere's banner is left untouched, but guy's seems to be folded over/cut.
-guy has killed before the events of the game, though not abundantly. he's mentioned that he's been sent on errands outside of the city at times and it's likely that he's had to defend himself from others. either way, he doesn't have any hesitance when it comes to protecting himself or others.
-he loves eating any sort of fish. he hates lemon and tofu.
-guy learned to cook primarily because he would lose track of time while working on his fon machines. by the time he remembered to eat, mealtimes were over, so he'd have to learn to fix himself something. he doesn't work in the kitchen, but he does say that he's done it during luke's birthdays.
-he's not very interested in managing lands or performing his noble duties. as he tells anise in tales of fandom, "i don't think i'll be very good at [that]." he's fine being a rappig walker. (emperor peony, on the other hand, needs to start acting like an emperor!!!!)
-the fabre family treated guy well, despite him being a servant.
-even so, guy views himself as a citizen of hod and thus a citizen of malkuth. he doesn't see himself as kimlascan at all.
-guy was conspiring with van before the game. the two most likely worked together to plan their revenge against the fabres. what guy wasn't aware of was van's plans to replicate and destroy auldrant, nor was he aware that luke was kidnapped by van and replicated. why van didn't tell him is a mystery, but it's one of the key points as to why he turns down van's attempts to recruit him as a god general. he does, however, say that he understands why the god generals were doing what they did, and that if he was given the chance to bring his loved ones back to life he would have joined van's side. he emphasizes that this was what past him would have thought, but he's still unsure of what is the "right" thing to do.
-while he doesn't like asch--even outright stating that he distrusts him multiple times throughout the game--he's open to the idea of getting to know him better "just as two people" by the end of the game.

PRE-GAME EVENTS
ND1997 - Birth of Gailardia Galan Gardios, son of Count Zygmunt Bazan Gardios and Eugenie Cecil-Gardios, brother of Marybelle Radan Gardios, on Loreleiday, Efreet-Decan 41.
ND2002 - Beginning of the Hod War (the Third War of the Borders) on Loreleiday, Efreet-Decan 41. Using the skirmishes around the border as an excuse, Field Marshal Fabre from Kimlasca invaded Hod and gained control over it. The same day, Hod began its collapse and soon disappeared in the sea. It was the trigger that lead to a full-blown war, but it was stopped half a year later by Fon Master Evenos.
Van was used as a test subject for fomicry experiments on hyperresonnance because he was the one on the island with the biggest affinity to the Seventh Fonon.
On Guy’s 5th birthday, the Malkuth Forces had already left the island (Malkuth had sensed Kimlasca’s invasion and had decided to abandon Hod). There was no time to take the fomicry machines, so Van was summoned to the institute and attached by force to a machine that could generate an artificial hyperresonnance. As a result, the hyperresonnance hit the Sephiroth Tree by accident and that caused Hod’s destruction. His mother was with him at the institute.
It is unknown what happened to his father, and what he was doing at the time.
Pere arrived too late at the Gardios manor, but found Guy and left the island with him. They spent some time in St. Binah with a friend of Pere, until Guy decided to enter Duke Fabre’s service.
Another name for the Hod War was the War of Glory.
ND2005 - Guy changes his name and goes to serve in House Fabre. Pere introduced him as his relative. Since Guy was too young to help Pere in the garden, he was assigned the task of entertaining Luke, who was four at the time. They were hired by Ramdas, and did not meet the Duke himself until much later. Estimated age: 7-8 years old.
ND2007 - Van graduated the academy and joined the Oracle Knights a little earlier. He was also starting to express his hatred for the world to Tear. It’s also around that time that he came to the Fabre manor as a sword instructor. Van also starts the Replica Project.

[TLN: Just after Hod was destroyed, when Pere escaped with Guy.]
"Master Gailardia, please have this." Peregynt took something out of his pocket and put it in Gailardia’s hand.
"What is this…?" The thing slipped from Gailardia’s fingers and fell on the bed, drawing his attention to it.
A ribbon?
Tears clear like the sea and sky that had long watched over Hod filled his swollen eyes once more.
That’s… That’s the… That’s a ribbon from Mary’s dress!
Gailardia gazed blankly at the ribbon that had just become a memento of his sister.

"Good morning, Young Master Luke. I heard that you are starting sword practice today. Please do your best."
Luke gave Gailardia a look as he dressed himself. “My sword instructor is already there.”
"Is that so? He is really early."
"It’s not just today. He’s come to the manor before to talk to my father about the details of our schedule."
"Ah, I see." Gailardia put his hand on his head. "I did not notice."
"That’s because you’re always careless and never think," Luke replied sarcastically. "I’m different. I wouldn’t be able to protect my people if I was this dim."
Then his eyes fell on Gailardia’s chest. “What’s that?”
"Huh?"
"That!" Without warning, Luke dug his hand in Gailardia’s clothes and pulled the ribbon which had been sticking out slightly. It was Marybelle’s blue ribbon.
"Y-Young Master! Please give it back!" Gailardia said, with a hint of panic in his voice.
"What is this rag? If you want to stay by my side, you need to take care of your appearance!"
"I’m… I am sorry." Gailardia apologized. His nails were digging into his palms.
Luke looked at the ribbon with a frown, then threw it on the floor. “A servant of House Fabre should not keep something so dirty. Now go and prepare my sword while I have breakfast.”
"Yes, sir."
Gailardia waited for Luke to disappear before he picked it up. Why did it have to stick out of its pocket now of all times? The tip was torn, probably from the rough way Luke had pulled it out. It was like the Fabre house was tearing his life into pieces little by little.

"Guy, come here!" Luke was waving at him from his room’s window.
"You called?" Guy crossed the garden lightly and jumped on the windowsill.
"Again?! You’re always coming in from the window!"
"Haha. I don’t want His Grace to see me come into your room," Guy replied unfazed.
"Guy, yesterday, you—" Luke suddenly stopped talking and held his head into his hands.
"Are you okay? It’s another one of those headaches?"
"Oww. Nah, I’m fine. It’ll go away soon," Luke replied, crouching down.
"They’re happening more frequently. Are you sure you shouldn’t see the doctor one more time?"
"I told you I’m fine… See, it’s gone now." Luke smiled at Gailardia to reassure him. "Erm… What was I saying before that?"
"Something I did yesterday?"
"Oh, right!" Luke thumped his fist against his palm. “You lost your pocket yesterday.”
"My pocket?" Gailardia looked at him confusedly for a moment, but then started rummaging around inside his vest. "It’s gone."
"Right?" Luke walked to his desk and took out a strangely-shaped piece of cloth from its drawer and handed it to him. "I was walking behind you and saw it falling. When I looked what was inside, I found a blue ribbon, so I thought I should give it back to you. It’s important to you, right?"
"Th-Thanks. A lot." Guy breathed a sigh of relief. He had sewn that inside pocket himself, but he was not really good at sewing.
"Ah, so I was right. I remembered seeing you take that ribbon out and talk to it from time to time. Thought that was fishy."
"…Really?" Gailardia felt his cheeks heat up.
"Yeah. Like you had some kind of mysterious secret, or something. So I thought I should cover it in drool when you weren’t looking.”
"What?!"
"Just kidding," Luke said with a laugh. Then he became serious again. "Oh, by the way. The tip’s a bit torn off. Shouldn’t you have it fixed? I’ll go ask a maid if you want."
"Ah… It’s okay," Gailardia replied, surprised. His eyes were strained on Luke. You don’t remember? …Well, of course. It was Luke’s fault the ribbon was ripped. But the Luke fon Fabre from before the kidnapping didn’t exist anymore.
"I just remembered I have something to do, so I’m going now, okay? Thanks again for this," he said, holding up the pocket.
"What do you have to do? Teatime with your ribbon?" Luke asked with a grin.
"Ha ha, very funny."
Gailardia jumped on the lawn from the window he had come from, and started walking away slowly, thinking back on what just happened.
The Luke that tore the ribbon was a hateful enemy. But this Luke…
Before he knew it, he reached the backyard. It’s always so quiet here… He gently opened his palm. The ribbon was resting on his glove, still as bright as before.
Mary, did you see Luke just now? He’s changed so much…
His gaze rested on the ribbon, and he asked aloud:
"It’s all right, isn’t it?"
A gust of wind snatched the ribbon away. It flew up high in the air, blending with the blue sky.
Sis…!
Gailardia closed his eyes. He felt he heard her answer.
CDC state of mind as of 5/18/2015
how guy's been treating the CDC has been similar to how he's spent most of his time in the fabre mansion, i feel. he understands the amount of power the instructors hold, as well as the organization itself, and he prefers to stay in the background and to bide his time to figure a way out and/or to fight back on more even ground. he's the sort of guy who'd rather take the more cautious route than anything else!
he probably would've kept trucking along like this BUT
these recent changes has been forcing guy to reevaluate what he wants and what he should be doing. he understands his presence here protects auldrant from destruction and he's willing to play along until an opportunity crops up, but then things got really personal! namely bc not one, not two, but three of his friends showed up on macha and then were promptly transferred/vanished
with one of these friends being someone he's been practically searching for for like. two entire years, so that really shook him up!
he's been bouncing between going with his gut + heart and risking everything to find them, and between his responsibilities as someone from auldrant to think of the bigger picture w/ his planet on the line.
and ofc he doesn't know where luke & the others are, still doesn't know the mysterious going-ons of the cdc, so it's pushed him to interact a little more with the npcs in approaching them & asking questions to try to figure out what might be the next course of action because if he takes that leap? he might crash and burn, and he'll bring down the world w/ him as well. and there's no way he'll let that happen even if it's a question of finding his friends because they've worked so damned hard together to change the world and to save it, and to throw it away selfishly would be something guy might want to do, but can't. not when he thinks it over.
SO THAT BRINGS US TO THE PUNISHMENTS
guy honestly doesn't see the instructors as warm people, or as ppl who want friendship with the recruits. he feels that they have an obligation to the crew as a whole, but when it comes down to individuals? n a h. . . they're acting primarily out of responsibility + duty vs warm fuzzy feelings inside and he can respect that distance. he doesn't really aim to be friends with any of them and he's been warned already by a couple of people that the cdc isn't kind, it's something that won't hesitate to crush you and wow guess what this punishment did! ┐(´∀｀)┌
and he was pretty pissed for a while. it was a mixture of "well shit, they're willing to pull this off at any time" and a mixture of "well shit, they did this to kids" w/ tsuna and green being on top of that list. and it was also a mixture of "well shit, what if anise or luke have to go through this" because he knows how they can be sometimes
(jade is devilspawn, but responsible devilspawn when it comes to emotions, he trusts jade to keep his resolve & a cool head)
and like, he vented to garrus, he vented at alice and a bunch of other ppl but some of the conversations he had had him thinking more on it.........
tl;dr to this already tl;dr, talking with hinata gave him resolve to actively look for some way to find weakness in the cdc, bc no matter how big or powerful this corporation was, it can't be allowed to keep going on the way it does, though he's not going to recklessly charge into anything atm.
talking with pilot & zelos had him think about the role of the instructors a bit more too, which is why he contacted momship the day after the punishments (the thread's still going on i think?? so we'll see how that goes)
but the gist of it he's beginning to understand the neheda's part of some sort of larger game that might wind up dangerous for the entire crew, instructors and crew alike and it's made him curious about the neheda's position in the cdc so he's still trying to get a feel of things ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but this is his logical thought process rn

it sucks because he made friends in this crew, and he wants them to all be okay, but he knows it can't be promised. it's rough. even so, he wants to try in making it feel okay for those he can.
shit's going down but they've got to get through it together. you've got to help who you can.
