Woah, woah, woah...! Who says I haven't done honest work before?! I'm the most honest man you'll ever meet!
[Ah, but secretly pleased a compliment he can finally treasure from Guy-chan ❤️❤️❤️. Fml actually he hasn't forgotten what Guy said about trusting him so it means...something.]
Anyway I didn't ask you here to discuss my rugged physique. There's some machines here I want to fix.
[At least all that reading he did on electrical wiring before Macha is come a little in handy.]
[The retort comes easy. In any case, he's got no interest in Zelos's man bod. No, what's more important is that magical ~m-word~. He walks up and slaps Zelos on the back.]
What are we still standing around here for? C'mon! Show me where these babies are.
[Why are you hitting him Guy?! Exaggerating it out of proportion as usual. Hunching just the slightest he makes a face.]
Yeah, yeah. Just don't hit me again it just won't work out between us.
[Okay maximum douchery achieved he'll grab his gloves and drag them back on before going to the maintenance panel in the floor of the waterline hiding the stairs down. Rather than taking them at a leisurely place he drops down with easy familiarity. ...Because there's twelve of these stations....and he's been in them all... On the wall next to the stairs are the words AREA 10.
Going down the stairs reveals a wide open space surrounded by a series of catwalks. The catwalks make up sixteen "floors" in all with stairs and ladders between each one. The real piece de resistance is the series of tanks, pipes and consoles in that open space. They're sprinkled with an healthy heap of sand speaking of neglect and here and there rust can be seen. But for the most part they seem...functional. A few consoles have the panels hiding their wires taken off where Zelos was working and one of the tanks is open revealing a pump system. Going up to said tank Zelos squats down in front of it with something of a concentrated frown bordering on a pout.]
I've been messing with the wires, but I just can't get it to start.
[As they approach the space, Guy brushes some of the sand off from the controls. He knows they won't work at this point, but he wants to clean it up a bit. Nobody's been in here for a long, long time. That much was apparent.
He squats beside Zelos, peering into the mess of wires and pipes.]
That's pretty dangerous, you know. [He says this as he sticks his head in.] You got a light?
[Scrounging around he finds the flashlight he'd been using and passes it to Guy.]
I was never allowed to attend the academy things like this are honestly beyond me.
[But he's trying. And he's piecing all this together between what he's read and what he can see with having 12 different versions of the same machine to look at. That... Really he feels like he should have found a way to attend anyway. He knows at Sybak or even just the Elemental Research Laboratory in Meltokio they were working with advanced technology shared by the renegades. Things like the power of Volt. Electricity.
There'd just never been any time. Completing school had been enough of a challenge with his Chosen duties. He's been over this, but it doesn't change the fact he feels like an idiot. He's so helplessly behind most people when it comes to technology in the CDC.
Aka crai moar Zelos anyway he'll be watching Guy pretty close to learn where he's been fucking up and maybe pick up some tips. He's not above scrounging knowledge.]
[Guy hasn't been given formal schooling, period. He's learned the basics, of course. Reading, writing, arithmetic-- but the rest had to come from Pere and his own initiative. The Fabres didn't care what he did in his spare time as long as his duties were completed. So he indulged in their library for the sake of keeping up with his studies, fiddled with machines in his spare time. All of it eventually paid off.
He accepts the light from Zelos and shines it around the dark interior. The tank itself looks fine, but it seems as though there's something wrong with the filter. With a frown, he gets on his knees to get a closer look.]
... yeah, it looks like we'll need to replace some of the wiring and the filter here. Something's gotten into them.
[Looking through his pile of junk... There is really no organization he just has things everywhere. But he pulls out a few different sizes of copper wiring.]
I have these. I don't know what to do about the filter though.
[...Ah. Crossing his arms.]
I mean, I can see if there's anything comparable at one of the stores unless you think we can fix it here.
[Finding a new filter was going to be a pain in the ass, especially since this one looks specialized to this machine. Guy doubts they'll be able to find another replacement. Therefore, it's gotta come out so he can see what's really broken.]
[Grabbing the wrench! He can do this much at least. Cause. He is actually quite used to hanging around people like a dog stealing knowledge so sad. Passing it over he'll take the flashlight from Guy if Guy will let him, intending to hold it for him.]
Here.
[I'm sorry but this is officially waifu territory asks Guy if he wants a sandwich with the crust cut off.......]
Thanks. [He'll relinquish the flashlight to Zelos since it'll be easier to work with a wrench and free hand. All of Guy's attention is focused on the pump before him. The bolts should be here, and if he works at them a little bit he should be able to remove the filter itself.
He's not going to talk much during this portion, unfortunately, since he gets into a state where he just. Shuts everything out around him as he works. Before long, he's gotten the broken part when he pulls back, and he sets it out on the floor. After some more fiddling--]
Ah. There's our problem. It needs a new pressure gauge and seal rings. See these? [He points.] The gauge has been busted in. The rest are missing. Someone must've scavenged them. No wonder the water hasn't been flowing through.
[Zelos watches that. ...Honestly it's just sad how hard he is clearly concentrating on this. Reaching out he lets his fingers hover over the pressure gauge, eyes taking in every crack and dent before flicking to where the seal rings should be. That is true there were rings on the ones he saw in the other stations. He hadn't realized they did something...]
I can grab the rings from one of the stores. I've seen them in one or two. But the gauge...
[He hadn't seen one of those at all. There's not much he could do unless he were to build a new one. And that would take him quite the amount of time to figure out and actually rig. If he even could. He glances at Guy.]
Well, you wouldn't have called me if I couldn't. [Guy grins at him.] I'll do my best. I can't guarantee anything without the right parts, though.
[He's a good mechanic, but no one can work on nothing. He picks up the broken gauge, turning it over in his hand to see the extent of the damage.] The rings should be our priority, though. You want to get this entire station up and running again, don't you?
[No he's just doing this for his health don'tchaknow. Nah, Zelos nods. He doesn't particularly feel compelled to explain himself to Guy. Maybe that's unsociable, but in the end do his "whys" matter? Not particularly as far as he can tell.
Setting aside the flashlight he straightens.]
Well let's do this now. There's about 9 others of these I need to fix so the sooner we're done with this one the better.
[He heads for the stairs. Guy can choose to bring the part along or not; Zelos feels like he's eyeballed the needed sizes pretty well. He'll need to keep this in mind though...maybe grab a few extra rings in case other stations have similar problems... Caught up in his work sorry bro.]
[The 'whys' can wait. He figures the reasoning behind it was some manner of goodwill. If not that, it's still something that'll make their stay aboard this station a little easier.
Guy picks up the piece--it's to save themselves a round trip in case they need to match the parts--and walks after Zelos.]
... I don't have much else to do. If you need an extra set of hands, I can help you with the others, too.
