Hiro. [He should've pegged friendly dog as a hand-shaker. Even as Hiro reaches out to return the gesture, he's wondering if the guy is equally likely to be the high-fiving type.]
Also green. [His arm wiggles, as if to show off not just his cuff, but the Juggernaut band.] And thanks for humoring me. Must be pretty used to all the new guy stuff, huh?
[Guy grins once the handshake's done, resting his hand on the hilt of his sword out of habit.] Well, Hiro, I used to be a new guy not too long ago. I still remember what it's like to be in your shoes.
[That makes him sound old, doesn't it...] Your group's actually the newest batch. Before you, my group were the new kids on the block.
[Hiro has actually met his first alien, and while a deeply weird and totally sci-fi experience, he's pretty sure he didn't inadvertently start an interstellar war. It's the little things, right?]
[He figured the answer would be obvious to Hiro. The CDC's structure was quickly revealed once recruits were thrown into the field, and it wasn't as though this sort of mission was a casual stroll.]
For the field, of course. [He pauses.] Did they fill you in on what Green does?
Well yeah. [The words come slowly at first, and Hiro's gaze moves briefly to the group ahead of them. They look so sure of themselves, and where they're going.] But something tells me it's not going to be two-hundred jumping jacks and some pushups.
[The look he gives him is one of pity.] You'll be all right. You've got the team covering your back in those practices. In any case, it's all virtual reality.
[You've got the team covering your back, he says, and the beat that follows is enough space for Hiro to push the thought down. He's done the team thing before. It didn't work out.
It's an argument for another day. Never let it be said that Hiro doesn't know how to pick his battles.]
I'll take your word for it.
[Up ahead there's a village beginning to take shape- and they're closing in on their inevitable fight. Looks like their conversation is over.]

...It does make you sound old that's absolutely a thing that old people say.]
So, what was the weirdest thing to get used to?

Anyway, Guy has to think for a moment on Hiro's question.]
I would've said the aliens when I first started out, but they've all been easy to get along with. It's the training you've got to watch out for.

What do you mean, training?
