Application Questions
Who is the most important person in their life and why? What might be different if this person hadn't been around?
Luke fon Fabre, without a doubt, is a crucial part of Guy's life. When Guy first arrived at the Fabre Manor, he'd been intent on gaining revenge no matter the cost. Luke "returning" from his kidnapping sowed doubt in Guy regarding his course. This boy who he had to teach how to walk, talk, and write -- could Guy truly commit himself to killing him? The stark differences between Luke and Asch was ultimately why Guy chose to forsake his revenge. Guy was shown kindness by his mortal enemy's son, and through him remembered how to live for something other than a suicidal mission.
Guy has canonically said that, were it not for Luke, he would have rejected the world entire and accepted its destruction. He would have joined forces with Van to replicate the loved ones he lost, even if it cost him his own life. Prior to meeting Luke, all that drove Guy was a vengeful obsession with the past -- which would have ultimately destroyed him.
Is there an event in your character's life that they'd do differently? How so and why?
Despite everything, Guy still thinks about how he could have swayed Van. He'd been too young during the Hod War to know how Van was forced into being a weapon of mass destruction; he'd been too caught up in his struggle with his hatred to recognize how far his childhood friend was gone. Although Van never confided the full extent of his plans to Guy, there's many moments he thinks of. Their secret talks when they met in Baticul; the times they crossed paths while getting Luke home; their final conversation in Belkend before all ties were cut. It keeps him up, sometimes, thinking about how he had never truly known Van despite trusting him as another survivor.
What's the greatest challenge you foresee your character facing in the setting? How might this impact their ability to adapt and in what ways will they confront this challenge?
Guy's dedication can lead to heavy tunnel vision. When he chooses his path, he's set, unless something drastic happens. While he'll be sympathetic to the Diadem's plights, he'll be wholly focused on getting home. He'll help where he can in order to make ends meet or to further his goal, but he will throw himself at any clues to get home -- no matter how unlikely they may be. Guy won't go out of his way to improve Panorama or the settlements. He has a higher chance of risking his well-being, taking dangerous jobs, and being manipulated all for the sake of making it back home. He's someone who needs purpose to keep on moving, otherwise he might sink.
What's the easiest thing you foresee your character adapting to in the setting?
Oh, absolutely the machinery and vehicles. Guy adores machines of all sorts and tinkers in his spare time. He'll be delighted by the technology on display and will commit himself to learning whatever he can. Finding employment shouldn't be too difficult for him either, as he served as both bodyguard and servant to nobility. Guy comes from a world where safe travel is impossible by foot. You either head into the wilds armed, or you hired others to keep yourself safe.
